HISTORY
In 1991, an industry that faced much opposition to crossing the border from the United States into Canada was born.
Tom Grifferty, CEO of FCT, was first introduced to the prospect of title insuring Canadian real estate transactions when he attended a conference and met Parker Kennedy, CEO of The First American Corporation. It was there that he was inspired to bring title insurance to Canada, and on the shoulders of this maverick former air traffic controller, title insurance was launched to the Canadian real estate marketplace.
Along with Hamilton lawyer Pat Chetcuti, Tom rallied support for a once criticized product for the Canadian market. Able to secure a few large transactions, opinion in the industry seemed to sway, and in a few short years they were able to increase profits from $18,000 in their first year to over $20 million in the seventh year of business. FCT now has over 16,000 customers across Canada.
Based in Oakville, Ontario, FCT employs approximately 1,000 people from coast to coast. Our customers include more than 16,000 lawyers and notaries nationwide, every major Canadian chartered bank, other lending institutions, real estate agents, mortgage brokers and builders. FCT's commitment to service excellence is unparalleled in the industry.
FCT is now the template used for expansion into new international markets by our parent company, The First American Corporation. FCT is the pioneer of title insurance in Canada, and continues to be first-to-market in product offerings.
